Rinse vs Washing Your Beard

Rinse vs Washing Your Beard

Keeping your beard clean is so important for the health and appearance of your beard. Finding the rotation between wash and rinse days can be difficult to understand. Heck, even understanding those terms can be difficult. Let us at Doctor Nick's Amazing Man Stuff help you out! In this blog we will explain what wash days are, what rinse days are, and how you can find the perfect balance for your lifestyle.

Wash Days - A wash day is a day where you use beard wash or beard soap on your beard.  This is extremely important for the health of your beard to be able to clear out oil, salt, dirt, and whatever else life instore for your beard.  If you sweat, get dirty, or have drool in your beard... wash your beard. It is that simple. If you have days where you do not have any of those things, then try to work in a rinse day. We will go over rinse days next. The important thing to keep in mind is finding the proper beard wash product for you. A soap is stripping and should not be used more than once a week. If you are washing multiple times a week, which most should, you will want to find a daily/gentle beard wash. If you have a modest lifestyle try washing your beard every other day, and on the 6th to 7th wash use a stripping wash such as a beard bar soap.

Rinse Days - A rinse day is a day where you just simply get your beard wet in the shower, bathtub, sink, or anywhere else. You are not using a beard wash, beard soap, or beard conditioner. This should happen on days where you do not get sweaty or dirty. I do not recommend more than 2 or 3 rinse days in a row for anyone though. The every other day recommendation from before is a great starting point. On rinse days we do recommend running your finger through your beard and even combing while rinse. Be gentle but purposeful.  You may be surprised to find out that your beard feels its best and looks its best on rinse days.

Balance - Finding that perfect balance comes with trial and error, and ultimately figuring out how to listen to your beard. You lifestyle, climate, and personal preferences will be the biggest parts of this equation. If you have found your perfect balance and rotation, please reach out to us and let Doctor Nick know what works for you. Who knows, you might need to keep an eye out for some beard wash and/or soap from us in the future!

Now sit back and enjoy that luscious man mane of yours, while you look and smell great!
